It is pretty clear, after 40+ years, that the Great Society legislation was an effort, successful effort, by the Democrat Party, to create a permanent underclass in America dependent upon welfare payments from the state and Federal government.  That ensured the Democrats a standing army of voters in local, state and federal elections.  That it was a complete disaster for the inner-city black families for generations now and a drain on the national treasury is irrelevant to Democrats.  The legislation produced an assured Democrat vote of near 95% among blacks by simply stating that Republicans wanted blacks to advance in society by having them get jobs, become productive, and stabilize families (the basic formula for all other groups that had come to America under less than ideal circumstances, and succeeded) and Democrats would "feel their pain" and continue to allow them to live their lives as if welfare was a career.  There was never any desire on the part of Democrats to help the poor with the Great Society legislation, and of course the poor have not been helped by any of the legislation.  It has, however, been a great success in establishing a permanent voting block for Democrats.

There is no reason to believe that the just passed health care reform package is in any more a desire by the Democrats to "fix" health care than the Great Society legislation was a desire to help the poor.  What it will do is establish another huge section of Americans who will view themselves as slaves to the Democratic Party.  The Democrats have been most helpful in pointing this out themselves.  Are you a slacker that just wants to live in Mom's basement until you are...say... 26 years old?   Democrats have just the health care plan for you!  Are you wearing your dead sister's teeth, or afraid that you might have to someday?  Democrats have just the health care plan for you!  Are you embarrassed that you are on Medicaid/Medicare and your hard-working neighbor has a great health plan that allows him to go to a doctor of his choice and skip the begging you have to do to some faceless bureaucrat in order to get seen by a PA?  The Democrats have just the fix for you!  You may still be a lazy slacker living in your parents basement, but at least your parents will have you covered.  And you may still be wearing your dead sister's teeth, but you won't be the only one.  And you may still have to beg for your doctors visits, but damnit, so won't those uppity hard-working SOBs next door. 

And isn't that what the Democrats are all about....equality.
